ABOUT MYST

Welcome to Myst: a starkly beautiful island, eerily tinged with mystery and shrouded in intrigue.

Named as the 2021 Mac Game Of The Year on the App Store, Myst has returned to the spotlight for a new generation of gamers to experience.

Journey to Myst Island and other stunning, long dormant locations – called “Ages”- and begin to unravel the mystery you have been thrust into. As you begin to figure out what happened on the island, you will find that you are playing a key role in an epic story whose ending has not yet been written. Explore deeper connections in these stunning and surreal Ages, uncover a story of ruthless family betrayal, and make choices that will affect both you, and the world of Myst itself.

Newly built in 2021 to play both in VR as well as traditional flatscreen displays, Myst is teeming with new art, new sound, re-imagined interactions, and even optional puzzle randomization.

Myst is available on the following platforms: PC (2D & VR), Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and Meta Quest Platform (1 & 2).

BUILT FOR BOTH VR AND 2D DISPLAYS

Designed and built from the ground up in Unreal Engine, this newly-reimagined version of Myst includes fresh takes on the visuals in every area in the game. With both VR and 2D play experiences in mind, this definitive, modern edition of Myst immerses the player in the world in a way that has never been possible before.

The VR experience includes both Free Roam and Teleport modes, and supports Meta Quest Platform, Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Rift S, and Quest on PC via Oculus Link.

Additionally, Myst includes many “comfort level” features for both new and experienced VR users, including the option to enable smooth or snap turning, quick travel up stairs and ladders, and vertical height quantization.

TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENTS

Myst is a game that pushes the platforms it’s running on to their limits. At Cyan, we pride ourselves in being able to bring a high level of visual fidelity to every platform we support, while still maintaining excellent performance for the smoothest gameplay experience. It runs (and looks great!) on mobile VR platforms from the Meta Quest 1 & 2, all the way to super high-end PCs and consoles at 60FPS at 4K with Ray Tracing.

With the power of our proprietary, internal optimization tool that has been tuned for the past few years, it is easier than ever for us to create games for a wide variety of platforms without hiring porting studios, making destructive modifications to our data, or branching our data entirely for work on widely different platforms. As an example of the power of this tool, working in combination with our flexible design process: As far as Cyan is able to tell, until Myst, there has never been a game that has both been able to ship with official VR support on any platform, and also win Mac App Store Game of the Year.

Another way Myst has been able to push technical limits was by having it be the first game to feature both AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and Nvidia DLSS. This enabled our game to increase performance without sacrificing visual fidelity on multiple different hardware configurations, both on NVIDIA 2000+ series GPUs with DLSS, and on a variety of hardware-agnostic machines to make use of FSR. Additionally, Myst was the first game released on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One with FSR support.

Myst is a great example of what the power of excellent internal tools can do for a small indie studio, and how it enables us to deploy on extremely different hardware, OSes, and visual interfaces.
