Cyan’s Announcements at Mysterium 2026

Cyan co-heads Hannah Gamiel and Eric A. Anderson attended Mysterium this year to give their annual “Cyan State of the Union”. Here are some announcement highlights from the team given during the presentation:

Physical editions of our Myst and Riven remakes are on their way.

Physical editions for our Myst and Riven remakes are on their way for for PS5, Xbox, and PC (Windows/Mac). There will be physical discs for the console versions, and the PC box will have a digital code. More news to come on this soon.

Physical versions of The Book of Atrus, The Book of Ti’ana, and The Book of D’ni are making a return

These cherished novels, originally published about 30 years ago, tell the origins of the Myst story and beyond, and were written by the creators of Myst and David Wingrove. These will be deluxe editions, with additional accessories and elevated craftsmanship compared to previous versions. More information will be available before the end of the year.

Mysterium 2027 will take place in Spokane, WA.

The annually held fan-run convention that celebrates all-things Cyan is returning to the town where the iconic Myst and Riven games were birthed. Cyan Co-Founder and gaming legend Rand Miller will also be in attendance to help celebrate our studio’s 40th anniversary! More information on event dates, registration details, and hotel information to come in the next several months.

We also in early discussions for a possible Cyan-themed exhibition with local cultural institution. More news on this will come as we are able to share it.

“Project Anglerfish” prototype teaser and other “Paths Not (yet) Taken” information revealed

Last (but certainly not least): For the first time ever, we publicly shared a teaser trailer of Myst universe prototype codenamed “Project Anglerfish”, made in 2024/2025. This game is no longer in development, but as it was a labor of love and respect for the development team, we wanted to share the work originally made for publisher-eyes only. Here’s a summarized quote from our announcement:

“Over a year ago, the team here at Cyan spent about four months building a prototype for a new game in the Myst universe, codenamed ‘Project Anglerfish’. The prototype (and this teaser trailer made for it) were purpose-built for publisher-eyes only. For a variety of reasons, this project couldn’t move forward at the time, BUT we’re still immensely proud of the work the team did – so we’re sharing the teaser for the prototype with you all now.”

As a part of the “Paths Not (yet) Taken” presentation where “Project Anglerfish” was mentioned, multiple other project ideas, concepts, and prototype imagery created over the last 20+ years were shared – including early concepts for Obduction before it became the version of the game we know today, Lyft, DiSC, and more.

We are currently in development of a new game, codenamed Mudfish, set inside the Myst Universe.

This game is currently planned to contain denser, more intricate game spaces than ever before, with new ways of exploring and uncovering information. We are currently in very early development stages of this game and will share more news on this later.

A recording of our “Cyan State of the Union” during this Mysterium will be made available on various channels. More information on where to find this recording to come.
