On my pre-Sonoma MacOS, an update to Myst / Firmament from Steam / GOG has caused the game to stop working. How can I fix it?

We’re seeing this issue affect a small subset of Apple users trying to play Myst and Firmament on older MacOS versions, and have added a solution to help you!
The steps below will help you get back to the game if you can’t or won’t update your MacOS to the currently supported minimum – MacOS Sonoma 14.5 – for these two games.
A heads up with a couple Very Important Points before you use the steps below:
This option exists only for Mac users who are not running either game’s currently-supported MacOS (Sonoma 14.5), and offers a game build version that will not be updated going forward, and isn’t officially supported.
If you decide to use this older build on an unsupported pre-Sonoma MacOS, we don’t recommend swapping back and forth between the Beta channel and the latest build, because save games on the newer builds can’t be opened in the older version of the game.
Ok, ready to take the plunge and get back into your game?
In Steam, go to the game’s page in your Games Library, and select the ‘gear’ icon, then ‘Properties.’
Next, open the submenu ‘Betas’ and using the dropdown menu at the far right (in the screenshot it reads ‘None’), select the option shown here:
On GOG, go to the game’s page in your GOG Games library, and select the ‘More’ icon at the top right of the page.
Next, open the submenu ‘Manage Installation,’ and choose ‘Configure.’
In the menu next to ‘Beta channels,’ select rollback_macos_under14-5.
If on either platform, the Beta rollback version isn’t appearing after you follow the steps above, try exiting signing out of your account and exiting the digital storefront, then restart your computer. After restarting, log back into the account you own the game under and check for the Beta again.
